Getting to Waiheke

Waiheke Island is a stunning island just off the coast of Auckland.

The island's mix of shopping, activities, vineyards, cafés, restaurants and art galleries make for a perfect romantic escape; family holiday at the beach or quick weekend away. Be it summer or winter – whether your dream is to relax with a book, walk along the beach or enjoy a lazy vineyard lunch – you've found the right place. The scenery is stunning, the beaches are safe and there are many well-marked walking tracks. Choose kayaking, fishing or mountain biking if you feel like expending more energy.

Waiheke is a 40 minute trip by fast ferry from downtown Auckland to Matiatia (some ferries go via Devonport which makes the journey slightly longer) or 45 minutes from Half Moon Bay to Kennedy Point on the car and passenger ferry. When on Waiheke Island, getting around is easy. There are bus and taxi services as well as a range of rental vehicles available.
